This project was designed to show the great difference which can be made by varying the focal length of the lens
Four shots were take in bright sunlight using my 18-270mm Tamron lens with a fixed aperture of f/22 and at ISO 400.
1. At 18mm (shutter speed 1/200s) provides the widest angle and gives very little information about the subject apart from its context and some physical characteristics eg colour and shape.
2. Photo 2 at focal length 46mm (speed 1/160s) narrows the angle of view and we can make out the subject (the sign on top of the pink building), although with no clear detail. This shot gives the closest to the 'naked eye' view.
3. At 109mm (speed 1/160s), a narrower angle of view still but the subject is clearly visible and details of the building are apparent.
4. Finally, at 270mm (speed 1/160s), with the minimum angle of view, the signage on the building is very clear and we can appreciate the compression with respect to the other items on the roof and the buildings behind.
Viewing the subject in photo 3 with a magnifying glass , it can be seen that there is the same compression as is evident in photo 4.
