On the same day as for Project 6, I chose another object down at the promenade, this time an ice-cream kiosk, closed at that time of the morning. It seemed to fit the bill as being very plain and big (although uninteresting). Using this subject, I took 4 photographs as follows.
1. The first 'non-thinking' shot placed the kiosk just off-centre using f/22 and a speed of 1/10,
1. The first 'non-thinking' shot placed the kiosk just off-centre using f/22 and a speed of 1/10,
ISO 100 with the 18-270mm lens (used throughout with the tripod) at 21mm.
2. For the second shot, I placed the kiosk firmly in the centre of the frame and almost filing it, using f/25 and speed 1/4 at 55mm.
2. For the second shot, I placed the kiosk firmly in the centre of the frame and almost filing it, using f/25 and speed 1/4 at 55mm.
3. The third photo had the kiosk positioned to the left of the frame using f/22 at speed 1/30 and 21mm.
4. Finally, I took a photo with the kiosk in the lower right corner using f22 and speed of 1/50 and 21mm.
For this series of photographs, it is clear to me that the position of the kiosk in the frame is very important in giving it a 'context' and I would choose photograph number 4 as this shows more that the kiosk is on a promenade (the inclusion of a walking figure helps here, of course) and gives more information about the area.
If I were to use this subject again, I would take a shot showing the kiosk alongside the length of the promenade for greater emphasis.
